Young mother
The artwork is quoted as ’Mother standing with little Bruno’ in the letter of January 7t 1920, from Ojetti to Andreotti: an artwork he and his wife saw and admired during a visit to the artist’s studio and which they decided to purchase. Created on the Bourdelle canon of Penelope, formal elements have been found that are present in several sculptures of Andreotti and, more precisely, the elbow bent on the hip similar to the one of the Woman Waving and the Marchesa Ada Niccolini; the naked child with raised arms in the two versions of Forgiveness and in all preparatory sketches of the Madonna with Child of 1923. But above all the “taste for a quivering, fluid matter, not contained in the drawing” is noted and this prevents the artist “very elegant even when dealing with simple characters” from every academic risk.
