Funeral monument to Stefano Bardini
The funeral monument of the antique dealer Stefano Bardini, realized by architect Gio Ponti under Andreotti’s guidance is located in the Porte Sante Cemetery behind the Church of San Miniato in Florence. It is the final model ready to be realized in bronze: it reveals the prestigious activity of this prestigeous antique dealer, among the historically most important figures of end 19th and beginning of 20th Florence. Andreotti realized a female figure, almost a grieving Muse to whom he grants typical attributes for artistic recognition: in the left hand she holds a compass, representing both Architecture and Painting (Bardini had bought and restored a palazzo in Piazza dei Mozzi, today a Museum in his name with his own art collection), in the right hand she has a sobbing statuette resumed from the Gothic-Middle Ages (representing the art of collecting); a parchment roll appears between the bare feet and the gown; on the left an open book on the ground; on the right, from the back of the figure, a cornucopia pouring its fruits.
