Dancer with Medusa Mask
This art piece, as the Dancer with bunches of grapes, holds itself on the tense equilibrium of the tiptoes on the vault of the base. The small head, with great curly hair and snakes, has a distorted face, by showing her tongue, which emphazises the apotropaic meaning implicit of the Gorgon. This artwork of extraordinary formal elegance marks the best results obtained by the artist during the years of his affirmation in France. Andreotti’s attention had moved from an evident realistic descriptivism to symbolist meditations and to reflections on Belgian and Austrian artistic expressions, thus reaching very high results, such as to be considered among the greatest sculptors of those years.
